Ms. Pelletier is currently obtaining her Bachelor of Business Administration at The Northern Alberta Institute of Technology. Ms. Pelletier is a mother and a member of Métis Nation of Alberta. Ms. Pelletier participates in various cultural events and cherishes moments spent with community. Ms. Pelletier spends time learning, teaching, and embracing her heritage. Ms. Pelletier hopes to be a knowledge keeper one day to showcase the importance of intergenerational wellbeing.

The Modern Métis Woman Specialized Scholarship

Ms. Gragg is enrolled in Full Sail University and is a member of the Wyandotte Nation. Through a summer youth internship program, Ms. Gragg has assisted in the kitchen, daycare, and the Wyandotte Cultural Center. Ms. Gragg enjoys beading and holds valuable teachings associated with other forms of artmaking. Ms. Gragg honours the women in her community and expresses the importance of educational justice.

MADELAINE DESAULNIERS

Univeristy of Victoria

Modern Métis Woman Scholarship

Ms. Desaulniers is in the Faculty of Law at the University of Victoria, Canada and is completing a joint degree in Common Law and Indigenous Legal Orders (JD/JID program). Ms. Desaulniers self-identifies as an urban Métis who was born in Calgary, AB (Mohkinstsis) and is a member of Métis Nation of Alberta.  Ms. Desaulniers has volunteered with The Calgary Food Bank, Calgary’s Drug and Rehabilitation Centre, the Jane Goodall Roots & Shoots Program in East Africa, and the Elizabeth Fry Society. Ms. Desaulniers hopes to become involved with policy decisions that assist the quality of life for all Indigenous persons.

BRITTANY SCHROEDER

Univeristy of Alberta

Modern Métis Woman Scholarship

Ms. Schroeder currently studies medicine at the University of Alberta. Ms. Schroder is a member of Métis Nation British Columbia (MNBC) and the Vernon & District Métis Association (VDMA). Ms. Schroder helped establish the University of Alberta’s Indigenous Medical and Dental Students’ Association (IMDSA) and is a committed visitor to the Treaty 6 Territory. In 2016, she had the opportunity to assist the elected board members of the Indigenous Physicians Association of Canada (IPAC) during their National Mentorship Forum and Annual General Assembly. In 2015, she was nominated for the 1st Annual Métis Youth Role Model Campaign. In 2013, she represented her community at the MNBC Ministry of Health Forum in Richmond, British Columbia.

Ms. Schroeder has also worked with Dr. Cara Bablitz, a Métis physician at the Indigenous Wellness Clinic, and at Palliative Care Outreach & Advocacy Team, to establish a new program called the End-of-Life Small Wishes Project. This initiative will grant socially vulnerable community members facing a terminal illness with a meaningful wish during their end-of-life journey.

ALANA ROBERT

Univeristy of Toronto (Osgoode Hall Law School)

Modern Métis Woman Scholarship

Ms.Roberts is in her third year of the Juris Doctor program at Osgoode Hall Law School. Ms.Roberts studies allow her to explore the intersection of law on the rights of women and Indigenous peoples. Previously, she has participated in the national Kawaskimhon Aboriginal Law Moot and won the Lerners Cup Moot award. Ms.Roberts identifies as Anishinaabe-Métis, and is a member of the Manitoba Métis Federation. Ms. Roberts is the first Métis woman in her family to go to university.
